Authentication provides a way of verifying the user’s identity before he/she is granted to access the portal, or piece of content accessed via portal.
Authentication - Confirms or denies user identity through
•User ID and password
X.509 digital certificates (Determine whether it was issued by a trusted certification authority.)
•External authentication services
Users log on to the portal with a specific authentication schemes and this is stored in the user’s logon ticket( sends a cookie).
Each iView is assigned an authentication scheme and only users that have logged on successfully with that authentication scheme or one with higher priority can access the iView.
The portal also offers support for anonymous users. No authentication is required, when accessing the portal in anonymous mode.
For example :
External portals that are made available through the internet.
Anonymous access is the most common way to access internet portals.
